This is a three-part workshop series focused on nonprofit legal principles to build and strengthen your organization. Each workshop builds on the previous. Dates are not yet scheduled for this workshop, if you are interested, please let us know by joining the waitlist. 

Workshop 1: Legal Overview and Principles of Nonprofit Governance

This topic will provide an overview of Oregon NP law and explore the fundamental governing documents (articles of incorporation, bylaws, and charitable purpose), Navigating growth of the nonprofit, Fiscal Sponsorship, Merging/Acquiring other NPs, board engagement and typical management structures, political advocacy (acceptable activities), grant making, conflicts of interest, proper fiscal and financial discipline (donations including in-kind donations, donor gift acknowledgment receipts, annual tax compliance).

Workshop 2: Business Fundamentals and Legal Principles for Good Management

This topic will discuss the legal essentials for nonprofit organizations to conduct good business, including contracts, intellectual property protections, liability waivers, media releases, independent contractor agreements, licenses and leases, navigating conflicts of interest.

Workshop 3: Working with People: Managing volunteers, employees, and independent contractors

This class will discuss considerations when engaging with workers (volunteers, employees, and independent contractors), the importance of developing policies to protect and guide the organization (such as volunteer and employee handbooks), working with employees vs IC vs volunteers, and challenges of each approach.

CFRE-Approved

Our courses and programs can provide continuing education points for the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE). Accelerate Legal Empowerment provides 9 points.

The People’s Nonprofit Accelerator is an Approved Provider for the CFRE credential program. Approved Providers are organizations that submitted their programs to CFRE International to review to verify that the programs meet CFRE International’s continuing education standards.

Only those Providers who have registered with CFRE International may advertise that the programs have been pre-approved by CFRE International for Continuing Education Points on the CFRE application for both Initial Certification and Recertification.

Tuition

We offer an accessible sliding-scale tuition fee structure. For those who are able, the Community Builder fee helps cover the costs The People’s Nonprofit incurs to host and develop the training. If you are able to contribute more, please consider the Equity Builder fee, which will increase attendance accessibility to our programming. Tuition levels are based on organizational budget size. Members also receive a $100 discount on any workshop.

• Equity Builder: For organizations with annual budgets greater than $1,000,001.
• Capacity Builder: For organizations with annual budget sizes between $500,001 and $1,000,000, and for individuals sponsoring themselves or unaffiliated with an organization.
• Solidarity Builder: For organizations with annual budgets under $500,000 and for individuals who are self-financing and identify as BIPOC, queer, low-income, with disabilities, and other marginalized identities.
