Certificate in Executive Leadership
Practical knowledge and expert coaching for resilient nonprofit leaders.
Formerly known as the Executive Leadership Academy, the Certificate in Executive Leadership, is a 10-month program combining coaching and theory to nonprofit professionals looking to level up their leadership skills.
Who it’s for: We developed this course specifically for mid- and senior-level nonprofit leaders with experience or interest in serving as an Executive Director.
Through a combination of lectures, and one-on-one coaching, you will:
- Evaluate your skills and motivations as a nonprofit leader
- Focus on your growth areas
- Receive personalized coaching to support your learning and practice
- Learn and practice the problem-solving and leadership skills necessary to become a resilient and engaged Executive Director
In addition to classroom work, the Certificate in Executive Leadership also includes:
- A dynamic Leadership Challenge Practicum during the final months of the course, allowing you to practice your new skills while tackling real-world challenges
- One-on-one coaching provided by International Coaching Federation-Oregon Chapter with established coaches
The speakers were so accessible, real and brought depth to the details. My coach really took me over the edge into new leadership prospects; I can actually visualize her pushing me up the steepest part of the mountain that I had put in front of myself and tipping me over the edge to fall—only to for me to discover there was no cliff, only open landscape.

After completing the certificate in Nonprofit Fundraising last year, the Executive Leadership Academy felt like a natural next step. I’m so glad that I continued on with the ELA because I’ve already learned so much from the folks teaching as well as from my cohort. The certificate courses have allowed me to continue my education in a way that is extremely pertinent to my day to day work while fitting into my schedule and giving me the opportunity to connect with folks I likely never would have met since I don’t live in the Portland area. I cannot recommend the People’s Nonprofit Accelerator’s courses enough!
